The Nalón Valley Mancomunidad Services was set up on the 12th January 1985 with the object of integrating various services and generating a dynamic regional collaboration and integration.
It is made up of five municipalities, Langreo, San Martín del Rey Aurelio, Laviana, Sobrescobio and Caso, which amounts to a population of more than 83 000 inhabitants that covers a surface area of 646.84 km2.
From its beginnings the object of the Mancomunidad has been to put into action a series of general interest services under the theme of unity. The aim being to unite forces and resources to improve services, and thereby to increase the level of wellbeing of the Valleys inhabitants.
The Nalón Valley Mancomunidad Services has been evolving during the years, pushing the initial services and creating new ones. This has meant continued effort in unification and the development of co-operational policies that allow us to improve the present situation and face new challenges.
The Mancomunidad actually manages six services internally, one of them by an administrative concession. To these one should add another two run by some of the town-halls, three managed in collaboration with other organisations or institutions and two specific activities run in the same way, which all adds up to a total of 13 services.
